It wasn't long ago that a dunk into the toilet or pool spelled almost certain doom for a smartphone. Sure, there were methods that might help dry out the phone, but it was always an anxiety-ridden experience when your phone got wet. That's why, by and large, most manufacturers these days include some sort of IP water and dust resistance rating.
